WSG #16 Good Bye Italian Kitchen
This Week on The Well Seasoned Gourmand coming to you from the United Podcast Network.
We start by saying goodbye to The Italian Kitchen after almost 59 years. If you do not get your crispelli and rice balls for the last time this weekend you may find yourself traveling to Sicily the next time you want them. A big Hearted thank you to Peter and Ruth Messina for their years of Service.
Dave went to his roots this week and got pizza a t The Brown Jug, better known as “the Jug” to locals and remembered how great their pizza and prices are. Which inspired us to talk about pizza. Who has the Best Pizza around?
The Daily Meal, All Things Food and Drink website has been posting their Best Of Pizza list in every state. And so, the conversation ensued. Massachusetts designated Best Pizza went to Santarpios in East Boston, as if anyone else could come close. But we do mention Pizzeria Regina, a classic, and bring back memories of Circle Pizza on Hanover St which closed in 2000.Tilton House of Pizza takes the spot for Best in NH according to the Daily Meal citing their fresh toppings. And, AlForno gets top spot in Rhode Island located in Federal Hill Providence. AlForno may be best known for its high praise and special designation directly from Italy for their grilled pizza. But we couldn’t talk about pizza in Federal Hill without mentioning Caserta and their light Sicilian style pizza.
After Dave takes his family out to lunch at “The Jug” he must top it off with cannoli but it’s so hard to find parking near Mike’s Pastry. Not anymore! Mike’s now has a new location in Assembly Row in Somerville. Easy to get to from route 93, and parking right in front. Now you can get all your Mike’s Favorites without even going to the North End, making it very convenient around the holidays!
Good news on the cheap east front Chicken and Rice guys have re-opened and are safer than ever!
